Charles BERBERIAN is a French comic book artist and author.
Born in Baghdad (Iraq) to an Armenian father and a Greek mother, he spent his childhood in Lebanon before arriving in France in the early 1970s.
He studied at the School of Applied Arts in Paris, where he was a classmate of François Avril.
His encounter with Philippe Dupuy was decisive. Under the name Dupuy-Berberian, the two collaborators produced more than 25 albums together, including Le Journal d'Henriette (3 volumes) in 1989 and Monsieur Jean (7 volumes) a decade later.
He also collaborated with François Avril for Sauve qui peut, with Jean-Claude Götting for Le Pigeon, and with Pascal Parisot for the award-winning Mort de Rire.
As a musician as well, he worked with Jean-Claude Denis (a fellow comic book artist), designing album covers. He is a talented all-rounder who has also made significant contributions to illustration. He is the younger brother of Alain Berberian, the director of La Cité de la Peur.
