Pigment print by Moebius (Jean Giraud): "Mesa Rouge"
Pigment print based on a 2009 acrylic painting (large format, reproduced almost at a 1:1 scale).
At the beginning of his career, fascinated by the American deserts, Giraud repeatedly turned his attention, particularly in Blueberry, to Monument Valley and its distinctive "geological architecture".
Here, he returns to one of his favourite landscapes: the mesas. But the galloping horse of Blueberry has given way to a motionless, contemplative Arzach, whose gaze embraces a landscape rendered in unreal colours, now glowing with incandescent light—perhaps an inner landscape as well.
Moebius was 71 years old. His gaze no longer sought adventure; it had become calm, serene, almost meditative. He redraws a landscape he had contemplated a thousand times, no longer through the eyes of a storyteller, but with the confidence of a painter who has nothing left to prove.
Paper: printed on luxurious heavyweight Canson Infinity ARCHES® 88 vellum paper, 310 g/m².
