Moebius Art Print: The World of Edena – Good Whale.
In 2010, at the age of 72, Moebius was commissioned by the Hermès company to create a visual for the launch of their new fragrance: Le Voyage. But instead of just one, Moebius created nine visuals, collectively titled The Elemental Worlds: A Journey Imagined and Drawn by Moebius. Hermès ultimately used very little of this work, perhaps too avant-garde or too sci-fi for their campaign... This true masterpiece, composed of nine plates, encapsulates everything Moebius had to offer: poetic imagery, dreamlike atmospheres, rich detail, and an astonishing lightness. Yet it remained largely unseen... This art print, plate number 6, offers a chance to rediscover one of these magnificent visuals.
Plate number 5 is available among Moebius’s digigraphies, here.
Medium: 300 g/m² semi-matte Novatech white paper.

The print is delivered in a rectangular tube decorated with black-and-white motifs paying tribute to the artist. This tube is itself packed inside a second thick rectangular tube for safe shipping.

Dimensions: 70 x 50 cm

The World of Edena is a comic book series created and illustrated by Moebius (Jean Giraud) between 1983 and 2001. First published by Les Humanoïdes Associés, the series was later taken over by Casterman. It consists of five volumes and one special edition.
The series originated from an advertising campaign that Moebius created for Citroën in the early 1980s. Rather than producing just a few illustrations, he created a thirty-page comic entitled Upon a Star: A Citroën Cruise.
In 1985, Moebius republished this story through his own publishing house, Aedena, removing all references to the French car manufacturer from the title. Shortly afterwards, he returned to the world of Upon a Star to set a second story there: The Gardens of Edena.
In 1990, Casterman republished Upon a Star as part of The World of Edena series and expanded the story with a new chapter entitled The Goddess. The final two volumes, Stel and Sra, were published in 1994 and 2001 respectively. That same year, Casterman also gathered several short stories set in the same universe under the title The World of Edena – The Repairers – Special Edition. In 2015, the publisher released a complete new edition of the series.
A landmark work in Moebius' career, The World of Edena, alongside Blueberry, Arzach, and The Memory of the Future, is one of the finest examples of the artist's unique talent. Contemplative in its storytelling and breathtaking in its beauty, the series embodies everything that makes Moebius such an extraordinary figure in the history of comics: a pure genius whose drawings give birth to stories that speak to our soul as much as to our heart and our reason.
