ROYO Romulo

Romulo ROYO is a figurative painter and Spanish plastic artist born in Zaragoza.
Today, he is one of the masters of Fantasy Art, a figurative pictorial expression that integrates fantastic or dreamlike elements. This artistic segment is rooted in the illustration of science fiction literature, comics, and fantasy cinema from the 70s and 80s. One of its most famous representatives is none other than Romulo’s father: Luis Royo.
Romulo began his career within the sci-fi movement, leaning towards figures like H.R. Giger (illustrator and creator of the Alien creature) or Jodorowsky, illustrating numerous book covers, in the style of a Siudmak, thus gaining recognition for his art.
Starting in 2000, he refocused on his painting and exhibited internationally in museums and artistic foundations throughout Europe, Asia, Russia, and the United States.
He often works on painting series with a common theme, developed across a dozen (or more) canvases. Noteworthy series include Siamese, Goddesses of Nibiru, and Flowers and Thorns !!
Starting in 2006, he began a collaborative work with his father when they decorated a 24-meter dome together in Moscow (a project documented in a book titled Dome). Together with Luis, he also worked on Dead Moon, a series of large-format paintings.
They then took on Malefic Time, an exploration of an apocalyptic universe leading up to the final battle between the last survivors of a decadent civilization and the Annunakis (a reference to "Gods from the Sky" in Mesopotamian mythology). Malefic Time is developed in various formats, forming a kind of total artwork.
Romulo, with or without Luis, establishes a very dreamlike style with undeniable pictorial qualities and the highly personal, fantastical poetry of a dreamer who embraces the twists and turns of his own imagination!!
