Batman is a comic book series created by DC Comics in 1939 featuring a superhero inspired by the bat. The character of Batman is known for his strength, determination, and wit, as well as his use of high-tech gadgets and futuristic vehicles in his fight against crime. In the series, Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne, a billionaire playboy who has vowed to protect the city of Gotham against criminals and villains. After witnessing the murder of his parents as a child, Wayne dedicated his life to fighting crime and protecting the innocent. In the Batman universe, there are several characters who are considered his enemies. First and foremost is the Joker, a psychopathic and sadistic criminal known for his diabolical plans and maniacal laughter. He is often considered the main antagonist of Batman. There is also Catwoman, a complex and ambivalent character in the Batman universe who has sometimes collaborated with him but is generally considered an enemy due to her criminal activities and lack of loyalty. There are also other iconic Batman enemies such as the Penguin, Two-Face, the Riddler, and the Scarecrow, each with their own backstory and motivations. Outside of his enemies, Batman also has a large number of allies and supporting characters in the Gotham universe. Commissioner James Gordon is one of Batman's closest allies and is often considered one of the few honest officers in the Gotham police force. He has a complex relationship with Batman, as while he appreciates his work as a vigilante, he is often frustrated by his methods and refusal to follow the law. Alfred Pennyworth is Bruce Wayne's butler and a trusted ally of Batman. He is the only one who knows Batman's secret identity and often takes care of covering his tracks and managing his affairs while he is on mission. Lucius Fox is the science and engineering chief at Wayne Enterprises and is often tasked with developing new gadgets and technologies for Batman. The Batman series is one of the most popular of all time and has experienced phenomenal success since its creation in 1939. It has been adapted numerous times, including in films, television series, and video games, and has inspired many spin-offs and other derivative universes.
Klaus JANSON is an American comic book artist.
Born in Germany, his parents emigrated to the United States when he was only 5 years old. It was in the state of Connecticut that young Janson grew up and discovered comics, those comic books dedicated to superheroes.
He was only 20 years old when he began inking Rich Buckler's drawings for Black Panther. From then on, he became known for his expertise in inking. The artist creates the pencil drawings, and the inker then works to refine the lines, strengthening them to make them more impactful. This is particularly true in American comics, which are often in black and white (like manga).
Janson worked for Marvel, notably on The Defenders and Daredevil, until his meeting with Frank Miller. He followed Miller to DC Comics, and together they worked on Dark Knight Returns starting in 1986 (with Lynn Varley on colors). The series (4 volumes) was a great success, notable for its intrinsic quality, its dystopian nature, and for the fact that Batman eventually faces Superman.
After The Dark Knight, he returned to Daredevil, becoming the artist after Miller's departure.
Janson also teaches his craft at the prestigious School of Visual Arts in New York.
