The silkscreen pays homage to the 1931 film City Streets, directed by Rouben Mamoulian, starring Gary Cooper and Sylvia Sydney, written notably by Dashiel Hammet. These four protagonists appear on Varenne's serigraphy.

Alex VARENNE is a French cartoonist and illustrator.
After his studies, he began by teaching the History of Art, before publishing, on a scenario of his brother Daniel Varenne, Ardeur, a dystopia on the Third World War devastating Europe. Using only black and white, as it will be his trademark throughout his career. The entire series will be published in 1980 and 1987.
Parallel to his work with his brother he began to publish erotic comics, among which Carré noir sur dames blanches (1984), Corps à corps (1987), or Fragments érotiques (1993). Portfolios often accompany his releases. He also published graphic novels in the 1990s.
