Batman is a comic book series created by DC Comics in 1939 featuring a superhero inspired by the bat. The character of Batman is known for his strength, determination, and wit, as well as his use of high-tech gadgets and futuristic vehicles in his fight against crime. In the series, Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne, a billionaire playboy who has vowed to protect the city of Gotham against criminals and villains. After witnessing the murder of his parents as a child, Wayne dedicated his life to fighting crime and protecting the innocent. In the Batman universe, there are several characters who are considered his enemies. First and foremost is the Joker, a psychopathic and sadistic criminal known for his diabolical plans and maniacal laughter. He is often considered the main antagonist of Batman. There is also Catwoman, a complex and ambivalent character in the Batman universe who has sometimes collaborated with him but is generally considered an enemy due to her criminal activities and lack of loyalty. There are also other iconic Batman enemies such as the Penguin, Two-Face, the Riddler, and the Scarecrow, each with their own backstory and motivations. Outside of his enemies, Batman also has a large number of allies and supporting characters in the Gotham universe. Commissioner James Gordon is one of Batman's closest allies and is often considered one of the few honest officers in the Gotham police force. He has a complex relationship with Batman, as while he appreciates his work as a vigilante, he is often frustrated by his methods and refusal to follow the law. Alfred Pennyworth is Bruce Wayne's butler and a trusted ally of Batman. He is the only one who knows Batman's secret identity and often takes care of covering his tracks and managing his affairs while he is on mission. Lucius Fox is the science and engineering chief at Wayne Enterprises and is often tasked with developing new gadgets and technologies for Batman. The Batman series is one of the most popular of all time and has experienced phenomenal success since its creation in 1939. It has been adapted numerous times, including in films, television series, and video games, and has inspired many spin-offs and other derivative universes.
Enrico MARINI is an Italian cartoonist, cartoonist and screenwriter born in Switzerland near Basel.
Very early on, he drew and created his first comics. Pushed by friends, he presented his work in competitions. A graduate of the Basel School of Fine Arts in 1991, he was spotted in 1987 by Cono Affolter, who organized the Sierre Comic Strip Festival. Through him, Marini enters into a relationship with a young publishing house Alten Publishers which will allow him to make his first official steps, as a designer of the series Les dossiers d'Olivier Varèse.
In 1993, with Thierry Smolderen writing the script, he gave birth to Gipsy, a six-volume anticipation series. In parallel, with Stephen Desberg, he made a childhood dream come true by creating a western series, The Desert Star. It will then be Raptors with Jean Dufaux in four volumes, then Scorpion, always with Desberg who has 14 volumes to date.
In 2007, alone, he gave birth to the Eagles of Rome. He provided the script, drawings and colours. The series propels him to the forefront of European comics and opens the doors to DC Comics for which he signs a Batman adventure in two volumes, before publishing, in November 2021, at Dargaud, the first installment of a diptych: Noir Burlesque.
Changing style and universe on demand, Marini remains consistent in its detailed graphics where the very large rubs the precious details and where the cutouts give an epic breath to the narrated adventures, From the dusty plains of the West to the battlefields of Romans!
