Régis LOISEL is a cartoonist and screenwriter for French comics. After a childhood in the west of France, he moved to Paris at the age of 20 and did his first comic book publications, notably in Les Pieds Nikelés. After a stint at the university, comic section, where he has Jean-Claude Mézières as professor, he publishes short stories (notably as co-author with Cothias and Le Tendre), in Pilote, Pif Gadget or Métal Hurlant.
In 1975, he began what would become one of his masterpieces: The Quest of the Time Bird (Volume 1 was published in its entirety in 1982). At the same time, he works extensively as an illustrator, both for the press and for advertising. In the 80s, he made vignettes for Malabar, theatre posters, screen prints (he is one of the first comic books to be published and self-published).
After La Quête de l'Oiseau du temps, which currently has 11 albums (most written by Loisel but drawn by different comic books throughout the pages of the work), Loisel tackles Peter Pan, and in 6 albums, he offers a personal vision, funny, accomplished and profound works by J.M. Barrie.
Initially based in Brittany (he also created the Perros-Guirec comic strip festival), he left in the early 2000s to settle in Quebec. This is where he will locate the action of his new series (in association with Jean Louis Tripp) Magasin Général, which takes place in the 1920s. Drawing dry, powerful, rich scenario, the series will be available in 9 albums. If Loisel is a touch of all genius, he is also a draftsman/collaborator who does not hesitate to be a screenwriter, draftsman, colorist, to occupy only one of his positions, to feed on the passion of other screenwriters, the pencil stroke of other draftsmen. Generous, multiple, Loisel reflects his work: eclectic and exciting.
