The Bois des Vierges is a fantasy comic series created by Béatrice Tillier, weaving a complex and captivating tale where magic, mythology, and ancient conflicts intersect. In a world where Humans and Beasts struggle to coexist, a historic pact has been signed to end the bloody quarrels between the two races. The powerful Lord Master Arcan and Loup de Traille, leader of the High Beasts, unite their families by marrying their children: the young human Aube is promised to Loup de Feu, a feared warrior. Their union is meant to symbolize peace between the peoples.
But war is far from over. When Loup de Feu is found murdered on his wedding night, the Beasts, furious, accuse Aube and her brother Salviat of the crime. To escape their wrath, Aube seeks refuge in the mysterious Bois des Vierges, a place full of secrets. The war between the two clans reignites, and the protagonists find themselves caught in a cycle of violence and betrayal, where the stakes are as ancient as the world itself.
Through beautiful artwork and a narrative rich in symbolism, Béatrice Tillier immerses us in an epic adventure where emotions, mysteries, and upheavals intertwine. The tension rises with every page, and the atmosphere of the forest, both protective and threatening, becomes a character in itself, witnessing a conflict that threatens to consume everything in its path.
Béatrice Tillier is a French illustrator and comic book author, born in Lyon.
As a child, she split her time between the countryside of Ardèche, where she developed a deep love of nature, and artistic and architectural explorations across Europe with her grandmother. These travels, along with her invented “stationary journeys” for her brother who couldn’t join her in play, sparked her creativity and interest in imaginary worlds.
After studying literature, she pursued a degree in graphic arts at the Émile Cohl School in Lyon, where she met her partner, Olivier Brazao.
She began her career illustrating children’s books (Nathan, Milan), before launching her first comic series with Téhy: Fée et tendres automates, published between 1996 and 2003 by Vents d’Ouest. The series, widely praised, opened the doors to the comic book world.
In 2005, she illustrated Mon voisin le Père Noël, written by Philippe Bonifay, which was warmly received.
She went on to collaborate with her partner Brazao and Thomas Mosdi on the heroic fantasy series Sheewõwkees (Delcourt), for which she did the coloring.
In 2008, she began work with Jean Dufaux on Le Bois des Vierges, a fantasy trilogy in which her richly detailed and emotional style shines.
Later, she joined Dufaux again to illustrate the third cycle of La Complainte des Landes Perdues, with volumes released in 2015 (Tête noire) and 2019 (Inferno).
Tillier’s work is known for its poetic sensibility and for breathing life into fantastic and emotional universes.
