Sylvain VALLEE is a French comic book writer and artist.
He began his career as a cartoonist in advertising and illustration after graduating from the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels. Initially known (and recognized) for his illustrations inspired by famous French post-war films (Les Tontons Flingueurs, La traversée de Paris, Un taxi pour Tobrouk), he published his first comic book in 1997: L'écrin (of which he is both the author and the artist).
He then collaborated on the series Gil Saint-André, before creating, in 2006, with Fabien Nury, the series Il était une fois en France, which achieved great success, both critically and commercially. (The series was also awarded at Angoulême)
After contributing to XIII Mystery (a spin-off of XIII) with one album, he created, in 2017, once again with Nury, the series Katanga (set in the Congo in 1960). The critics and the public were once again captivated by this trilogy.
In 2021, he released his first graphic novel: Tananarive, which has since been acclaimed and received multiple awards at various festivals and literary events.
