Romain Hugault

Romain HUGAULT is a French cartoonist.
Hugault’s specificity is that, apart from his pin-ups that wonderfully revive the 40s/50s and make his success as an illustrator, he is a formidable connoisseur of the aviation world and a pilot himself.
Son of a soldier who started as a mechanic before passing the pilot competition, Romain Hugault saw his father go through all the steps that led his father to the rank of colonel of the air force and thus knew the backstage and the arcana of the air bases where the activities of the father allowed the son to formed his gaze, forged his experience.
For a long time, he wondered whether he would be a driver with a passion for drawing or a draughtsman with a hobby for driving! He opted for the second option and put his childhood memories in the hangars where the planes were repaired, checked and parked, his own experience as a pilot, since he holds his patent since his 17th year, in the service of his art. And at the controls of his Piper-Cub J-3, he remains a pilot-draftsman who feeds his framing and the colors of his drawings of the hours spent in flight, over the world!
His first album was published in 2004: The Last Flight. He then drew with pen and ink from China. Some of his albums focus on a specific aircraft model that becomes the central visual "character" of the story. Dealing with the two World Wars, which so profoundly shaped the development of aviation, Hugault also often illustrated air meetings, airplane exhibitions or in-flight shows.
